Another new dining concept from Royal Caribbean

Royal Caribbean have recently introduced a new dining concept for the brand new Anthem of the seas which is due to Sail out of Southampton on its maiden voyage in April this year.

The new dining option will be similar to regular dining offered on other ships where you choose either first (approx. 6pm) or second dining time (approx. 8.30pm) and you will sit with the same people each night served by the same waiters. The only difference is that you will dine in a different restaurant each night. There are 4 complementary restaurants and guests will rotate amongst these for the duration of their cruise. The new dining experience is call Classic dining. Disney cruise lines offer a similar concept which works very well (or so I have been told)

Dynamic dining will still feature on this ship and is very similar to freestyle dining offered by Norwegian cruise line. You choose where, when and who you dine with!

There are no formal nights as such. If you want to dress up in your finest, then you select the formal restaurant to dine in. If you prefer a more in-formal approach, then choose one of the casual restaurants.

Dynamic dining was first introduced on the Quantum of the seas in November 2014. Feedback has been pretty negative. Long queues at restaurants, poor service which is not what you expect from a 4* cruise line. I guess they had to do something radical to overcome this less than positive feedback from guest. Is this the right answer? I have no idea. Will customers want to sign up to this new concept?

Personally I would recommend that everyone who is booked on this new ship signs up to the Classic dining because at least this way you are guaranteed to be able to dine in all four restaurants during your time on the cruise. Want to still avoid a formal night? Then book into one of the casual speciality restaurants for that specific evening.

I have no idea how this will effect booking already made for specific restaurants. I hope they have thought through how this will impact groups of cruisers and families who may not necessarily want to be fixed to times but however still want the same level of service you expect from a cruise.

Dynamic dining has been postponed on the two largest ships Oasis and Allure of the seas!

Have Royal Caribbean being too adventurous to think that a new dining concept would work on a brand new ship? Why didn’t they trial it on a smaller more established ship?

Are you booked on the Anthem of the seas for this summer?

Will you partake in this new dining concept?

I would love to hear what you think
