Royal Caribbean have set out to “WOW” us all again with the recent announcements made about their new “smart-ships” the new Quantum and Anthem of the Seas.

Royal Caribbean has already previously announced a  host of new exciting features to these brand new ships but they seem to have even more to shout about.

The recent smart-ship announcements are centred around the fact that their new ships with have fast internet connectivity.  Although many of us at home are now used to having fast internet, this has always been a lot more difficult to achieve at sea for quite obvious reasons.

These ships are going to have dedicated satellites delivering ship-wide, fast onshore broadband speeds.  This means that guest will be able to potentially chat with loved ones back home via video chat, as well as more easily being able to check on-line content such as social media and emails.

The higher quality internet connectivity means that the kids (and some adults) will be able to enjoy a live global gaming suite where they could actually play on-line with friends back home and other people globally.

One of the main technological headlines on-board will be be a new Bionic Bar (as pictured above) where clients will be able to order drinks on tablets and have the entertaining robots whisk into action and make them a cocktail right before their eyes.  There will also be a troupe of robot screens and a room that has three storey floor-to-ceiling glass walls that can dynamically project any scene imaginable.

Royal Caribbean have also announced new smart phone and tablet cruise planner applications that will let passengers plan details of their cruise before and even whilst on-board their cruise.  Clients are also going to be able to track their luggage cases location after check-in with a smart phone utility also.

The good news is that Royal Caribbean have also invested in state of the art technology that will make their ships cleaner, more efficient and these ships will also be the first ships without any incandescent light bulbs.  All lighting on-board will be provided by low-energy led or fluorescent bulbs.

I think these announcements are very exciting and make me even more keen to want to experience the ship when she is lauched although I would be interested to hear how much this high speed internet connectivity will cost passengers on-board as I don’t believe this has been announced yet.
