Pier Pressure- read on it is the right spelling!!

Full length of young men and women holding cellphoneJust before Christmas there was a story in the paper about a woman who plunged off the end of St Kilda’s pier in Melbourne, Australia while viewing Facebook on her mobile. She was thankfully rescued from the water by the emergency services, still tightly clutching her phone.

This prompted a lot of similar tales online about accidents involving lamp posts, doors, walls and even a fountain in the middle of a shopping mall.

The bare truth is that more and more of us can’t seem to function now without the constant need to know what is going on in the World and usually to the detriment of normal channels of communication such as talking to each other face to face.

Now, I will be the first to admit that I cannot imagine life without my mobile phone and I have had one since they were a lot larger and heavier!

And I am a google addict as I like to look at song lyrics whilst listening to music or look up actors and plots whilst watching a film. I even managed to do a lot of my Christmas shopping online which impresses me if no one else!

What I do have trouble with is social media! Is it just me? Am I a real dinosaur?

A recent episode of Downton Abbey introduced electricity to the house and scared a lot of the inhabitants.

Last year I had never written a blog and now I do it  most weeks so I WILL master Facebook  and Google Plus and Twitter . So please bear with me and like my pages, join my circles and so on and help me build up my sites so I can devote my time to finding you wonderful holidays.

I don’t want to be glued to a screen (other than to look for cruises ) but I would like to understand this new language so many are talking.

Well that’s another resolution. I told you about the diet. I hope to keep both. What are yours???
