My colleague Marie and I travelled down to Dover last Friday to spend a few hours on board Seabourn Quest.
This was my second time on board a Seabourn ship as I visited Seabourn Sojourn in Southampton last year.
What surprised me the first time was the understated elegance of these beautiful luxury liners. All 225 suites are ocean view, mostly with private verandahs, and have one of the highest passenger space ratios in the cruise industry. You are welcomed on board with champagne and your in-suite bar is stocked with your favourite tipples. The ships are full of stunning marble and works of art.
Launched in 2011, Seabourn Quest visits many places during the year including Antarctica. She is specially equipped for this remote part of the globe with a reinforced hull suited to icy waters and Zodiacs on board to tender passengers for sightseeing and a host of specialist safety features.
She is equally at home in the Caribbean which is where she hosts her famous tradition of “Caviar in the Surf”.
This epitomises the service you expect from Seabourn and there is a very friendly, social atmosphere on board. There is no usual reception desk and instead there is a relaxing concierge lounge and library called Seabourn Square where you can plan shore excursions, book dinner reservations or just relax in the coffee bar.
All the dining venues are complimentary including having your meal served in you suite should you wish and there are open bars throughout the ship with fine wines poured at lunch and dinner.
The spa is outstanding and the deck furniture is wood and rattan so no plastic chairs!
