An oasis in Southampton

Royal Caribbean’s Oasis of the Seas is due to dock for the first time in Southampton next Wednesday 15th October.

Oasis was the largest ship at sea until the launch of her sister ship Allure of the Seas, measuring an extra 2″ or 50mm in length!

She will be the biggest cruise liner to ever dock in the UK, exceeding the current record holder by almost 40% in size.

Oasis is longer than 4 football pitches and wider than 6 buses parked nose to tail!!

Amazingly innovative, she is split into 7 “neighbourhoods” on board. At her launch, Oasis was named by no less than 7 godmothers including singer Gloria Estefan and the English actress Jane Seymour. Typically, cruise ships have just 1 godmother.

By happy coincidence, I am sailing from Southampton next Wednesday on MSC Magnifica and so hopefully will get a good view of Oasis.

I cannot wait to see all 222,900 tons glistening in the (hopefully if optimistically) Southampton sunshine. Personally, I prefer a ship that doesn’t hold 6,600 people but having said that, maybe I would.

Have you cruised on Oasis or Allure?
