Koningsdam so much more.

My last blog was all about the lights flowers and artwork. But what about the beautiful Ship herself. Koningsdam is a brand new Pinnacle-Class Holland America ship. She arrived in April this year and has a 2650 guest capacity. So for those that are not quite so keen on the last batch of mega ships with over 4000 this is a refreshing change.

As I said last time this was my first Holland America experience and I was very impressed. Impressed enough that I am now looking to book my own personal holiday next summer along with 6 of my closes friends, this time as couples not just the ladies so I must say the pressure is on as taken years to get the husbands to agree.

Koningsdam as a wraparound promenade a lovely feature we are finding is getting less and on the newer ships, 12 Restaurants, 7 entertainment venues and 2 pools one has a glass dome that will retract when in hotter climates. This area was stunning.

Even on a cloudy or wet day you can enjoy a tropical feel. There is a lovely New York Deli and Pizza bar overlooking the pool which will serve authentic deli sandwiches piled high with your favorite fillings, personal pizza and creative salads.

Now the staterooms, and corridors for that matter had a sophisticated, serene and bright feel. Fresh new colours of lilac, persimmon and pistachio helps to give this feel.
Just walking down the corridor to your stateroom felt light and airy. Inside, ocean view, balcony or suite, something for all tastes and most certainly budget, they had the wow factor about them. The bathroom had the best shower I had ever seen, at sea that is no more sticky curtain but a clear glass cubicle.
I must also point out that single staterooms are also available.

Once chilled fed and watered you will be spoilt for some entertainment. With 7 venues to chose from and as Holland America work with Lincoln Centre Stage which is the world’s leading centre for performing arts, Holland America are proud to bring you outstanding musicians performing chamber music each evening along with afternoon recitals.
B.B. Kings’s Blues Club comes direct from Memphis bringing Funky and fast to soulful and smooth. This 8 piece band will perform nightly in the Queen’s Lounge and guests can enjoy speciality cocktails such as Lucille and Rock Me Baby.
These are just two to start with. I must finish with a picture of the beautiful outdoor pool which shows The Sea View Bar where you can watch the sunset as you sail away to your next port of call. Also what amazing weather we had in the Port of Tyne that day the passengers could not believe their luck with the northern weather, to be honest so was I. One of the best things for me is seeing a ship, old or new on a blue sky day just gleaming and welcoming. My idea of heaven.
