Britannia update.

Can you cast your minds back to the hype and I would even say frenzie we were all in when at long last the newest P & O ship Britannia went on sale ? It was a very exciting time here at Cruise.co.uk and I am happy to say that excitement is only building again as we are now only months away from the glamorous launch in Southampton in March 2015.

So at what stage is Britannia at now ? well the 141,000 ton vessel will carry 4372 passengers with 1400 crew. She will have over 15 impressive decks 13 bars, 13 restaurants and 4 swimming pools to name but a few things. Her maiden season will be out of Southampton with a selection of 7, 10 and 14 night itineraries to the Mediterranean, Fjords, Canaries and Baltic. Followed by a winter season from Barbados covering the Caribbean.

The £500 million ship is now sitting in Fincanteri’s Monfalcone shipyard near Trieste in Italy. She has already had her ‘floating out’ ceremony to test her seaworthiness and has just undergone the amazing work on the brand new livery.  420 litres of paint was used to paint the worlds largest union jack along with a further 160 litres for the P & O logo.

This has been no easy job and when you see the scale and this ship for the first time I am sure she will take your breath away. I hope that along with all of my colleagues I will be lucky enough to be part of this wonderful event and experience it first hand.

I cannot wait for the internal pictures to start arriving and I promise I will share these with you also.
