Wheel Chair users beware

This is a subject that really gets on my nerves, no not the wheel chair users themselves but the cruise lines that say they are wheel chair friendly, because lets face it, are the cruise lines really wheel chair friendly? Yes they offer wheel chair accessible cabins and most areas if not all are accessible for wheel chair users to get about. BUT………………..why oh why do the cruise lines offer a very limited amount of these cabins on each ship. It drives me mental, to be honest the only chance a wheelchair user is ever going to get a chance of booking one of these cabins is if they book very early, they will have absolutely no chance of finding one if they leave it much later than that. So with that in mind I can honestly say most cruise lines are not really that wheel chair friendly. So with that in mind why can’t the cruise lines build more wheel chair accessible cabins, it’s easy really, it’s not like able bodied cruises wont be able to use one of these if the cruise lines do not sell them. The only real difference between a wheel chair accessible cabin and an able bodied cabin is from what I can see, they are slightly bigger, they have no step into the shower and there might be a few extra rails added around the cabin. BINGO everybody is happy and wheel chair users get a fair go of getting on a ship.

It does make me sad when I get calls from my regular wheel chair users desperately searching for any cruise they can find that has a wheel chair accessible cabin available, they have every right as us in booking a cruise but just because they have to use a wheel chair it puts them at a huge disadvantage.

Come on cruise lines get your act together and work this out, it seems ridiculous that in this day an age we still have that stigma.

Wheel chair users if you read this, let me know your thoughts……….
