Jewell of the Caribbean

rico

It was a very scary start to my Cruise Ship career, having spent 7 days in Miami being trained on everything about working on a cruise ship. Finally I was assigned my ship and I was told I would joining it in Puerto Rico, where ???? I had never heard of the place, yes Barbados, St Lucia, Antigua but San Juan, Puerto Rico, where the hell was this place? So with my suitcase in one hand and my plane ticket in the other off I trotted to Miami International Airport.

The nerves started straight away on seeing the plane I would be using to take me to this unknown island, all I can say about it was it did have 2 wings and 2 propellers and that’s about it, slowly the plane made it’s way to the runway and off we flew, straight into the unknown. The flight was about 40 minutes but felt like longer, as the plane started it’s approach into San Juan International airport the nerves really set in. Any ways once I had my luggage back I approached the exit of the airport and out into what would tun out to be my number one Caribbean island. Everyone spoke English !!! doh I later realised it is American owned. As we drove along the motorway towards Old San Juan I was mesmerised by all the colours and smells of this amazing place. Once on board I found out that this would be our home port for the next 6 months and each time the ship would be docked from 7am – mid night every 7 days. This was unusual but I was not questioning it, so started my love affair of this wonderful Island…………..
