History denies cruise ships to dock

The PO Adonia and Princess’ Star Princess were denied docking in Ushuaia in Argentina recently.  This is because of the well documented row between the Argentinian and British government over Falkland Islands.

The reason behind this is because the ships had just ported in The Falklands.  Now if you have read any of my other blogs you are probably aware that when I used to work on Celebrity Infinity I worked the South American Itinerary and The Falklands was a favourite port for ex pats and for British crew members as you could buy some of the comforts of home from the local store and also fill up on a full English breakfast with REAL bacon not that bacon you get on American ships!

The Star Princess is on the same Itinerary as I worked and Adonia is on her world cruise. The Princess ship was told that a container ship was in the berth she was supposed to dock in.  This sound all a bit fishy to me.  It sounds like the Falklands conflict in the early 80’s and the history between the two countries has taken over cruise holiday now which seems wrong.

The port from which a ship has just departed is usually not a point of contention. But 30 years after the Falklands War, the dispute between Britain and Argentina over sovereignty of the islands is threatening to boil over again. The Argentine government has recently issued a decree that all ships travelling between Argentina and the Falklands now need its permission to do so!

Will this end the Itineraries which include both Argentinian ports and The Falklands in the future?  Let me know what you think.
