My Greek Wedding Part Two

A week on and my wedding of the year is over, and what a fabulous day we had! Morning of the wedding went by in a blur if I’m honest. I thought I would feel very emotional when I saw my son Stuart, for the first time in his suit but I was fine, maybe it was because there were so many people to say hello too!

The wedding was magical. Stavrini looked stunning, so beautiful and they both looked so in love and happy when they saw each other, it was lovely. The church was decorated with trees all the way up the aisle, it was so beautiful.  We had the main Greek wedding ceremony first and then the civil ceremony right after. The priest spoke in ancient Greek, sounded lovely, although had no clue what he was saying! The bride and groom had the crowns and had to walk around the altar with the Greek best man holding the crowns above their head – no mean feat as my son is 6ft 4! They had to eat cake and drink wine, then when it was all over we all were congratulated by all of the guests. This took ages and my hat, although lovely as it was kept falling off with all the hugs I was getting – note to self – no more hats!

We were then whisked away to the Belfry for our meal and evening of entertainment. Before the meal we had a few group photos taken on the side of the golf course, had a few canapes and drink and then onward to the meal. I wish you could all have seen the room with the decorations on – it was fantastic!  There were trees on every table, candles lit, lots and lots of foliage – just wonderful and really did take your breath away. After a wonderful meal and speeches we all danced the night away. I did my “mums” dance, Stuart then did his dance with the dads and nearly every other man there, he must have been shattered. Money was thrown to him when dancing – and at the end it was all swept up to be given to the band.  We had a mixture of Greek and normal “pop” music, which meant we could all get up and enjoy ourselves.

It really was a fantastic day, everyone was so lovely and I was just the proudest mam ever!  Now, I have my lovely Oceania 3 day cruise to look forward to on Tuesday – life is good!

Till next time x
