Will Britannia Rule The Waves…

Well P&O are in the spot light again, they have announced that there new ship is to be named “Britannia”.
At present she is being built at Fincantieri’s Monfalcone shipyard in Italy and is scheduled to enter service in March 2015. This will be the eighth ship in the P&O fleet and the largest ever to be built for the British market, would you believe she is going to be a whopping 1,082 feet and will carry over 3,600 passengers and 141,000 tons.
P&O Cruises & Carnival UK chief executive officer David Dingle said: “Britannia is a most fitting name for the newest addition to P&O Cruises, which, with its long and famous heritage, remains Britain’s favourite cruise line.

“Britannia will capture both the contemporary spirit of P&O Cruises and the spirit of Britain today.

“It will be a modern classic, a ship for this and future generations offering authentic travel by sea in an enduringly contemporary setting.”

The new ship will offer a larger spa, more bars and coffee bars along with more single cabins than on any other ship. She will incorporate the ‘best of the best’ from previous builds including the popular front-facing Crow’s Nest bar and more outlets echoing the popular Glass House. Passengers can also expect to see one or two new “signatures” and more chefs added to the current celebrity line-up.
The Britannia is being designed throughout by London-based Richmond International, creating “flowing” interiors which have a coherent feel while each area will have an individual identity, look and feel through shape, space and soft furnishings.

A British ship being built in Italy ? I wonder if she will have an Italian flare with a bit of twist to our British tradition, mmm what are your thoughts ?
