Let Me Help You On The River

WHY RIVER CRUISE?

  • Small ships carrying up to 150 passengers.

Really easy to make friends and that also means you can sit with whom you want to at lunch and dinner, in fact the last cruise I did everyone changed around all the time, I went on a Danube sailing with Peter Dielmann  not so long back,  each evening you had to pick out a sort of raffle ticket which had a table number on it and that was then your table for the night, which meant couples got split up sometimes an excellent way to meet people and share your thoughts of the ship, excursions and general tips.

  • You get dropped off in the heart of the city.

This gives you more time to explore and also it means you don’t have a big mass exodus to get off the ship as you would on a large cruise ship and you wont get an endless queue, for the ladies it also means less walking also a good idea especially if you do have some walking or mobility problems.

  • No motion sickness.

Now that has to be a plus nothing is better than gliding across a River on a calm day and most of the time you are unaware you are even moving – bliss.

  • Excursions are included.

Some of the River Companies include them within their prices but some don’t, Obviously if you are paying a higher fare for your cruise the tours should be included. If you choose a cruise which doesn’t include them in the price  its a good idea to try and arrange some. I know I have been to different destinations and have not pre booked any and regretted it, The best way to see a Country/City  is to get out and about and with the experience of a  tour guide you cant go wrong – they will have so much knowledge of the area. If you don’t have excursions included within your cost I would suggest you book them as soon as possible as popular ones always sell out first.

  • Informal.

Some  people ask about dress code’s so to let you know- daytime is comfortable and casual, so good walking shoes are essential, check where and when you are going for sunny or rainy seasons. Evening time I would say  smart/casual so probably like something you would wear if having a normal night out back home and possibly something a little more dressy up in case you have a captain cocktail or party night, but no diamonds or tiarras or dinner jackets required.

I hope this helps some of you into the world of River – I will bring some more info for you next week. Look at my facebook page also for tips and ideas.
