THE KILLING FIELDS

The Killing Tree.

The Memorial Stupa.

We started the day  with a talk as usual from our tour manager about what was going to be happening, I noticed that our normal happy go lucky group was much smaller than usual, I think it was the thought of the day and what was happening.  But its history and whether we go and see or not doesn’t and cant change the past, I’ll apologize in advance if my photo’s upset you.

Mass Graves.

I was  ignorant of the history of Cambodia and  as I was a bit too young, didn’t know what  was happening and it was the other side of the world, The tour manager put on a film before we went which  explained to us  all about Pol Pot and the Khmer Rouge  horrible  regime, we were going to CHOEUNG EK which is the most well known of over 300 Killing Fields throughout Cambodia.

We travelled by coach for about 1 hour to get to the site and our guide took us around and was explaining as we walked and we stopped from time to time in disbelief to look at the graves. During a terrifying 14 years some 3 million Cambodians were murdered.

Today’s tours as well as the Killing Fields also included a visit to Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum.Again this visit was not a pleasant one but well worth a visit.

From here we drove onto Chatomuk Mongkul to see THE ROYAL PALACE at Phnom-Penh. This was absolutely spectacular Ive never seen anything go fantastic it is the palace of their majesties the king and queen and the royal family. From the Angkor period until present. It was lovely to see the Silver Pagoda also located in the royal palace grounds.
