So Is It River Or Ocean?

Well which one do you prefer OCEAN OR RIVER? I know my preference maybe this blog will persuade you to my  way of thinking.

  • There aren’t any waves and you can always see the shoreline– Guests like this as they can’t get seasick and they feel safe.
  • Your on land every day– on River cruises your in port for at least some portion of each day, on seagoing itineraries, there’s usually at least one day when your sailing all day and all you will see is sea-
  • Your view changes more often – but its not necessarily more scenic- How scenic any cruise is depends on the itinerary, some stretches of River may be ugly as are some Ocean Ports, On a River Cruise, between ports you see whatever is on the shoreline, but on Ocean cruises between the ports you will see nothing and River Cruisers might find it boring.
  • Your dropped off in town. Small ocean ships often drop you off in town too. Huge ocean ships may dock in industrial ports that can be an hours drive from what you’ve come to see.
  • You don’t have to wait for a tender to shore. River ships don’t have the lines to get on and off of the ship, when a giant ocean ship anchors offshore, passengers must line up to take tenders to and from the land, and depending on the size of the ship this can you hours to do.
  • Everything on the ship is near the cabin – it takes no more than a minute or so to be where you want to be.
  • You spend more time with the captain & officers – On River cruises you will see and speak to the captain most days in the wheelhouse or the dining room. The hotel director is always in the lobby or nearby. On an ocean cruise you probably wont get to see the captain.
  • Shore excursions are included in the price – On River Cruises, guided groups walking tours are included, few ocean cruises include them unless your talking about Regent Seven Seas.
  • Wi-Fi is free – It might not always work in your cabin or when your ship is passing a lock or hills, but it normally works in the lounge. On ocean cruises internet access can cost $1 per minute and can be very slow.
  • You needn’t pack the day before you leave – On River ships you don’t put your case out in the corridor the night before you leave, you can keep it with you till the morning – so much better if you are a woman (sexist I know )
