Can you not live without Wi-Fi on your cruise??

Are you one of those people who can’t go 5 minutes without looking at your phone?…….or in some cases i’m sure its only 1 minute!   If you are then you will be interested to see P&O Cruises new Wi-Fi packages available to guests onboard. P&O ship new livery

P&O Cruises senior vice president, Paul Ludlow, said: “People are used to accessing anything at a touch of a button or swipe of a screen 24/7 and this doesn’t change just because they are on holiday.

“We’ve listened to feedback and have invested significantly in the service to offer packages which are not only great value but also flexible. Guests can now choose a package which works best for them based on their needs and how they normally use the internet. Guests can purchase satellite internet credit before they sail or purchase their package at any time during the cruise.”  ipad

The packages:

The Connect Package – £7.75 for 24 hrs
A simple way to stay in touch with family and friends through social networks. Includes internet messaging and social media.

The Browse Package – £12.50 for 24 hours
Browse as usual (with the exception of video streaming), plus email and social networks. Includes web browsing, email, internet messaging and social media.

The Works – £24.95 for 24 hours
Stream YouTube, Spotify and Apple Music, video call, browse, email, and share via social networks. Includes YouTube, Spotify and Apple Music streaming services, web browsing, internet messaging, email and social media.

For me I’ll be honest I cannot stand social media, but as with many businesses I can see the benefits. But outside of work I like to keep my life private and don’t feel the need to tell people how i’m felling or what I’ve had for tea or my childs exam results etc etc.  Who cares?  Many people do I suppose otherwise it wouldn’t be so popular!

When I go off on my holiday I like to switch off so no emails and no social media for me, yes I will send a text or 2 just to tell the family all is well but thats it.  If  I had my work emails on my phone no doubt I would be tempted to check but why?,  we’ve enough staff to sort any issue without me to have the worry whilst away.

Did you see the story of that pub landlord in East Sussex, he has installed metal mesh in the walls and ceiling of the bar which absorbs and redistributes the electromagnetic signals from phones and wireless devices to prevents them entering the interior of the building……..basically your phone won’t work.  He says it will encourage people to talk to eachother rather than looking at a screen.  Spot on fella!! iphone

I think I must be getting old, Victor Meldrew springs to mind……lol.

Do you agree, or can you not cope without social media??
