Are you and your family feeling restricted on holiday?

Ruby Princess 168Are you and your family feeling restricted on holiday? Do you feel your being punished or ousted for having children with you on a cruise ? A holiday doesn’t begin until everyone’s enjoying themselves. As a father of two boys , I can honestly say we have never felt restricted before , but as my two start to get older, one is soon to be a teenager , I wonder if they might start feeling a bit frustrated on a cruise?

We of course want everyone to have a great time but we also need to make sure everyone is staying safe and happy while on board. That means that proper supervision is important. Many ships and cruise lines have guidelines in place for your safety and the children’s. There are some restrictions on certain parts of the ship at certain times. Children under 13 years must be accompanied by a parent/guardian in the public lounges after 9:30pm. Children under 18 years must be accompanied by a parent/guardian in the entertainment lounges and restrictions may apply to access pools, spas, gym and our beauty and treatment areas. Want a night off? Be sure to check with the Kid’s Clubs for special evening events designed for children and teens. We all know that us mums and dads need a little break too! That’s why there are lots of special Kid’s Clubs available on many of the ships.

P&O for example have these rules in place so everyone on aboard can have a safe and fulfilling holiday.

Casino – Entry into the Casino is limited to guests over the age of 18, regardless of whether or not they are accompanied by a parent/guardian. (21 years whilst in US waters).

Swimming pools  – The swimming pools on-board are unsupervised and children under 16 years are to be supervised by a parent or guardian whilst using the pools.

Whirlpools – The whirlpools on-board are not to be used by children aged 8 and under, and children aged 8-16 must be supervised by a parent or guardian

Gym, Saunas and Steam Rooms – Saunas and steam rooms have restrictions to those under the age of 16.

Children under 14 years are not permitted to use the gym, sauna and steam room.

Children aged 14-16 years must be accompanied by a guardian over the age of 18 when using these facilities and may only use the cardio equipment in the gym.

The Retreat – On-board Azura, Britannia and Ventura is reserved for adults only and therefore entry is only allowed for those aged 18 years and over.

Nightclubs – When in operation, children under the age of 16 are not allowed in the venues designated for the adult night club.

There may be time restrictions when children are no longer allowed in certain areas such as bars after midnight. These times and locations will be notified to you once on-board.

Children under the age of 12 are not permitted to use the lifts unless accompanied by an adult.

Have you and your family ever felt like you were missing out on anything on any of the cruise aspects? So far we have been lucky and my boys have loved every cruise we have done I just wonder as they are about to get older and to that age where they believe they are more independent than they should be , that things may become tricky? Let me know your thoughts!
