In search of Princess Elsa..

I’m off to find Princess Elsa from Frozen!

I know! I can hardly believe it myself! A spur of the moment decision to book a 6 day trip to the Arctic to find the Princess and hunt down the Northern Lights in Norway.  Well that’s what I’ve told the kids, and they’re well jel!  Especially when I told them that the Disney Film Frozen was inspired by Norway, with fjords, cathedrals, snow and ice!

We’ll be jetting off from Gatwick to Tromso where we’ll be overnighting to acclimatise to the freezing conditions, and perhaps visiting the Arctic Cathedral before boarding the Richard With for our 3 night voyage of discovery!  Strange name for a ship I thought, but its because Richard With was a Norwegian Ship Captain who founded the cruise line.

We’ll be visiting Hammerfest, Honningsvag and Kirkenes before returning to Tromso for one last night.  Hopefully, fingers crossed, we’ll will be lucky enough to witness the pure magic and wonder of the Northern Lights!

Having never experienced a Hurtigruten cruise I’ve been doing a bit of research about the type of cruise I am in for.  Well, it hasn’t got the refinement and White Star service of Cunard, and you can forget looking forward to the type of entertainment you get with Royal Caribbean.  From what I can gather its more of a work horse, rather than a thoroughbred amongst cruise companies.

I have read that the facilities on board are very good, and that the staff on board are extremely welcoming and friendly, and very knowledgeable and experienced in all things Arctic!  Apart from that I know very little about this particular cruise line, so I’m very keen to find out more about them.

So, because I’m on a voyage of discovery, ticking places off my Bucket List, I’ll be leaving the glam cocktail dresses and strappy heels at home.  I’ve ordered a load of thermal underwear, rubber soled fur lined, waterproof boots, gloves, hat, scarves woollen socks.  Layers!  That’s the key…

Hmmm…. I may not have thought this through…..

I’m thinking of perhaps Dog Sledding experience, if I can put up with the constant barking,

or might instead book a Snow Mobile ride – An adrenalin rush on the snow and ice!  …

But most importantly (besides visiting Princess Elsa,) I am on the hunt for the Northern Lights

Might even catch a glimpse of Santa!.    Can’t Wait!  Watch this space! x
