I have always fancied the idea of a Helicopter ride over the Grand Canyon, but never thought the opportunity would present itself. However, when planning our 40th Wedding Anniversary road trip, from San Francisco to Las Vegas, this journey would not be the same without ending on a ‘high’! And what better than to have a birds eye view of this magnificent natural wonder from a height of 4000ft!

No doubt you’ve seen the latest notification from P&O outlining their new Dress Code, and its causing some controversy I can tell you!
No more ‘questionable’ slogans or images on clothing, no Fancy Dress – only permitted on ‘Theme Nights’, and only what P&O deem suitable. No Denim, Football shirts after 6pm. This type of outerwear will be confined to your cabins! (No mention of Rugby or other sports?) May need more clarification P&O, as what about Golf? No Golfing attire? Bowls? Tennis? the list is endless!

I thought I would give you an overview of this beautiful and vibrant city, which I was lucky enough to spend time in recently. I will concentrate on modes of transport and how easy it is to navigate around. Especially if you are planning a pre cruise stay here.

It all started with ‘ So how shall we mark our 40th Wedding Anniversary?’. My immediate thought was ‘Cruise!’ but no, Hubs had another idea, which he has always dreamed of doing ‘when the kids are grown up and left home’ “We could do the Pacific Coastal Highway from San Francisco to Vegas?”

Its October 2017, and yet another month clouded by more bad news for the Travel Industry, in a year that has seen Hurricanes devastate the Caribbean and the coast of Florida, leaving homes and lives shattered, livelihoods wrecked. Cruise Lines having to cancel cruises, and altering itineraries to avoid the disaster areas. Thankfully now the worse is over, things are slowly returning to some semblance of normality.

We’ve all see the terrible devastation Hurricane Irma has ravaged upon some of the most beautiful Islands in the Caribbean. Leaving some virtually uninhabitable, and others levelled to the ground, with peoples homes reduced to debris.
Its hard to get my head around actually, the extent of the damage and the loss of life, that nature at its fiercest can unleash. Its overwhelming to witness from the safety of my home miles away, the sheer extent of the aftermath.
How do people pick themselves up from this the worse tropical storm to have hit the Caribbean in decades? Quite apart from rebuilding their homes, hospitals, schools etc. What about their livelihoods?
The Caribbean is the most popular cruise destination and the islanders rely on the income the cruise lines and their passengers bring.
We have seen fantastic rescue missions from Royal Caribbean who have sent 2 of their ships The Adventure & Majesty of the Seas to Puerto Rico and St Thomas on humanitarian missions to help the victims, together with Enchantment Of the Seas deployed to Miami to help the victims escape the storm. NCL Sky has also been sent to St Thomas to assist where it can.
