Spend! Spend! Spend!

Who remembers those immortal words spoken by Viv Nicolson after winning £152319 in 1961 on the football pools?  I don’t actually remember it, I was only a twinkle in my Dad’s eye at the time……but,

It seems that some of the cruise lines are going to follow Viv’s example and spend, spend, spend in 2016.

Royal Caribbean have announced that Liberty Of the Seas will undergo an internal refit in early 2016. The refit will include new dining options,a Flowrider surf simulator and Splashaway Bay, an interactive water park designed exclusively for toddlers and young children. The aqua park has twisting slides, a multi-platform jungle gym, water cannons and more.  New child only areas and the ship will also offer 53 additional staterooms including 26 Panoramic Ocean View staterooms with floor-to-ceiling glass walls.

Celebrity Cruises are also in the mood to spend some money as well in 2016. Both Celebrity Infinity and Celebrity Summit will undergo complete renovations that include a new rooftop terrace restaurant that has a large screen for watching the latest movies and a specialised menu.

Who has enjoyed a meal in the Tuscan Grille? I really enjoyed it and thought the choice and service were well worth the cover charge – Great news then if you enjoyed it too, as both these ships will be benefiting from the addition of this speciality restaurant.

If you are lucky enough to enjoy a suite experience then I am sure you will enjoy it more with the new fixtures, marble surfaces, carpets etc they have planned.

You can be sure though that the cost of these renovations will be slightly more than Viv won back in 1961. Do you know what £1523919 is worth in todays money?

Have a guess – well it is just over 3 million – and as I said before that is just a drop in the ocean when you look at the money the cruise lines are willing to spend to add the enjoyment of our cruise experience!
