A Foggy Day In London Town – Part 1

I was a stranger in the city
Out of town were the people I knew
I had that feeling of self-pity
What to do? What to do? What to do?
The outlook was decidedly blue

Have you ever been stranded ? Grounded by fog? Unable to get home? If this has ever happened to you, well then you have my sympathy.

I was unlucky to be travelling home from Rome on the very day that fog descended on Northern Europe, complete chaos – I had to be re routed via Heathrow – what a nightmare, stranded passengers queuing for hours for cancelled flights, queuing for hotel rooms, taxis, food – you name it and there was a queue for it. I ended up abandoning any thoughts of flying back to Manchester and caught a train instead, at least I arrived home safe and sound , just my case took 4 days to arrive!

But, I digress. What I really want to talk about is Silver Spirit. What a magnificient ship she is.

She really does stand out from the crowd. Gleaming and pristine against the gloomy Malta sky.

I joined the ship on a rainy Friday afternoon in Malta. I do like Valetta, as it is so easy to get into the town from the cruise terminal, just enough time to carry out a little retail therapy.

As we waited in the elegant reception area to check in,  we were welcomed on board with a very nice glass of champagne. The formalities over with, it was now time to discover our stateroom. Silver Spirit has a maximum guest number of 540 and she is only 36000 tonnes, but for me she is such a breath of fresh air from all these mega ships, so it was just two levels up to deck 7 and my stateroom.

The size really blew me away. In the bathroom there was a lovely big shower and a separate bath tub, Bulgari toiletries! then going further into the stateroom there was a walk in wardrobe, robes and slippers and enough hangers to easily cover a 2 week cruise. If you need it, there is a pillow menu, I have never seen the point myself, but each to their own!

Soon after, our butler came to say hello. Before experiencing this service I was a little unsure. However, you utilise him as much or as little as you need him. He was there to make sure we had everything we needed and he soon realised that around about 5pm a bottle of Prosecco and some nibbles were the order of the day in stateroom  739!

It was then time to join my fellow travellers on deck to enjoy lunch al fresco. The choice was amazing, delicious tapas, amazing burgers, healthy and nutritious salads. It was presented so well. And don’t forget this is premium all inclusive – champagne, cocktails, mocktails – whatever takes your fancy.

After this wonderful lunch it was time to saunter back to my stateroom,  pick up my life vest and attend the muster drill.

This finished just in time to enjoy our sailaway from Malta.

I hope this has given you just a little taste of my experience – but there’s more!

I will tell you all about the wonderful service, fantastic food and where we got to next time
