Get Behind Turkey

So after the awful incident a couple of weeks back at Istanbul Airport, Turkey looks set to take another drop in it’s tourism figures.

I realise this is not their concern at the moment, more important to grieve for the lives lost at this stage, but long term it could become a real problem for the Turkish tourism industry.

So I am here to say, Get Behind Turkey!

I have holidayed in this wonderful country a couple of times, have friends who live and work out there, and it’s such a massive shame that these despicable, cowardly acts keep happening to them.

Turkey has a wonderful history, and is seen historically as the trade crossroads between the East and West – a location now which is proving extremely unfortunate because of it’s proximity to countries with terrorism problems, wars, and other conflicts, most notably it’s large border with Syria, which has been the subject of horrendous attacks of late, causing people to flee the country, very sad indeed.

But Turkey is an amazing country, I’ve always found the Turks to be very friendly, and very receptive to tourists.

Naturally too, it has two stunning coastlines, the Black Sea to the north, and the much loved Turquoise coast to the South and West. The likes of Dalaman, Marmaris, and Bodrum have been a tourist hotspot for many years.

Lets not forget the beating heart of the country either, Istanbul, one of the largest cities in the world, split into three parts to accommodate three different types of culture. Istanbul is home to some of the most incredible buildings ever, most importantly, the Hagia Sophia and the Blue Mosque, among many others.

So with a country with such a glorious touristic pull, are we going to be scared away? NO WE ARE NOT!

Would I still go to Turkey? Of course.

Would I fly via Istanbul? Absolutely.

Would I be concerned? Yes a little, but no more concerned than flying anywhere else nowadays.

I am ruled by desire, not fear, and I hope people can relate to this and get behind Turkey!
