Malta Leaves Me Wanting More!

OK i’ll be honest, my recent holiday to Malta was an opportunity to tick a few boxes:

  1. Go to somewhere in March that was reasonably warm but not too hot for a 7 month old baby – Check
  2. Go somewhere that was relatively cheap – Check
  3. Go All Inclusive to take the thought out of where to eat and when – Check
  4. See how the wife and I manage on out first holiday with a baby – Check

I settled on Mellieha Bay area due to this part having a good sized beach just across from our hotel, the ‘db Seabank’.

Now granted I’m a travel agent with 14 years experience behind me, but having organised my own holidays for just me and the wife for several years, this was a new one on me arranging everything to now include our little boy.

To be honest, apart from some inefficiency on our arrival transfer, everything went without a hitch, and we managed to tick all of the above boxes very well, and had a brilliant time overall.

The hotel was absolutely fantastic, graded as 4.5 star, it probably should be given higher status purely based on the service staff they employ, they were arguably better than cruise ship staff which is high praise from me being a cruise specialist and a cruiser myself.

It’s not the type of holiday I’m used to, but it was genuinely was on of the best holidays I’ve had, so on a personal level from me and my family I wanted to thank all the staff at the db Seabank for making our stay so fantastic. Nothing was too much trouble for you, and more than once you went the extra mile to see that our stay was excellent, and you acheived this with flying colours, truly well done and of course we will be back in the future.

As for Malta itself, there is a real charm to the place, Mellieha seemed to be gearing up for the summer season, and as such there was a bit of building work going on in most places, which initially I wanted to have a gripe about, but my wife made the point that it was only early March and to shut up and put up! Of course, she was right!

We didn’t stray too far from the beaten path, it’s hard to do this pushing a pram, and of course babies need regular naps, feeds and changes, so the reality for us was that we weren’t about to set of for a day out and go on a big adventure every day. This wasnt the point anyway, the point was to kick back and relax, which is exactly what we did. But having said that, when we do go back to Malta, I want to do it the other way, i.e hire a car and see some of the plethora of history the place has to offer. I did get down to Valletta which is a magnificent city, but I could do with going back and seeing more as it’s a big old place!

One other huge benefit of Malta was that despite us arriving on the 3rd March, the weather was at a wonderful average of about 19 to 20 degrees which was amazing. We left a snowy runway in Manchester with temps in the minus figures, so to get that amazing jump in warm weather was a dream come true, and a little unexpected given the week before was somewhat grey and a bit cooler according to the various weather apps I was looking at.

So in a nutshell, great time at the db Seabank – want to eat and drink to your hearts content, this is the place. Think of it as a non-moving cruise ship. For me it certainly had that feeling to it. Loads of speciality restaurants too, all included in the price you pay. And Malta – loved it, can’t wait to go back and see more.

Anyway for all my customers that have patiently waited for me, I’m now back and working so feel free to give me a call!

I’ve a few days off at Easter, and I found out whilst away that I will be experiencing Azamara Cruises at the end of May too, so stay tuned for more details of that – another thing I cannot wait for having never sailed on this brand.

Thanks for reading and as always, until next time….
