Passport Prices

I was discussing with my parents recently different holidays and their favourite type of holiday is taking their caravan abroad. I have memories of when me and my two brothers were younger coming home from school on a Friday and my mum packing up the caravan as a spur of the moment trip.  Now that we have all left home and they are in their twiglight years (hope Mother doesn’t read this) they like nothing more than going abroad with their caravan. Unfortunately as they are on a pension they find it quite expensive and their passports have run out. It would they cost for the two of them £ 144 before they even got on the ferry. I think the 5 year passport should be introduced to people of a certain age. I know it sound a bit depressing but my Dad of 74 say’s himself it’s silly having a passport that lasts for ten years. Great if he is still around but he won’t want to be going abroad at that age. This also got me thinking how the cost has gone up over the years. It is a lot for families to pay in top of a holiday if the whole family needs renewing.

I started to look into it on Google so the prices I found may not be completely accurate. Here are the difference in cost:

Australia  £150

USA  £85

France £75

Spain – £23

I was really surprised how much it is for Australians to renew their passport and how low the price is for Spain. It is still a lot of money for some people even though we aren’t the most expensive , which is a surprise. Especially now because of Brexit the idea of everyone travelling with an I.D card I guess will be out of the question. But then I suppose we do have ten years to safe up- if you’re that organised.
