Cabin grades and what they really mean

A conversation I have with a lot of my customers is on the different cabin grades there are. It can be a bit of a mind field deciding which was is best for you and most suited to your budget. All cabins include the basics such as TV, 24 Hour Room Service, Tea & Coffee making facilities and a fridge. These can vary from cruise line to cruise line.

One of the most popular grades is an inside. The reason clients go for this are a number of different reasons.

1 – Cost- why spend a large amount on a cabin you won’t spend a lot of time in

2- Have more money to spend on board

3- Go for the cheapest grade so they can go away more often.

I recently stayed in an inside cabin for four nights and for me personally I missed being able to step outside for some fresh air. I didn’t think I would and always thought it depends on where you are sailing to and for how long. So on the back of that I have booked myself a balcony for next year.

Outside cabins are usually a bit more in price and the only difference is they have a window. Again some people are claustrophobic and need the natural daylight and like to be able to tell if it’s night or day. Size and amenities they are generally the same as the inside’s.

Balconies- Probably the most desired grade and some customer’s will only sail if they have one. As I mentioned earlier It is nice to be able to step outside first thing and see your surroundings. I have had one in the Med and did use to sit outside and take in the view and have a quiet moment before heading up to dinner.

Virtual Balcony- These I think are a really good idea and give you the illusion of having an outside when you haven’t. I haven’t seen one personally but from pictures I’ve seen they seem like a clever idea.

Promenade Cabin- The idea behind this is genius. If you can’t stretch to a balcony then these are a great alternative. The idea of sitting in your cabin and watching the comings and goings of what is happening outside is perfect. Especially if you know you won’t be spending a great deal of time in your cabin, this is a great substitute.

Royal Suite- I have never actually booked one to date as I feel these are in a league of their own. The extras you get like your own Butler, Grand Piano and some even have their own dining room so you can have room service. They do look amazing but I always think would I if money was no object-not sure. Maybe for a really special anniversary or Birthday perhaps, but they do cost a small fortune.

What is your favourite grade, do you always select the same cabin number? I would be interested to know everyone’s thoughts .
