Indoor Cruise Pools

So I was having a general chat today with one of my regular customers in regards to his cruising history and where he has traveled too over the years and he brought up into conversation about the indoor pools on cruises.

I personally never thought this would be an issue for the cruising market as most cruise lines travel to warmer climate destinations that that do not require an indoor pool. However from the discussion we were having I did not realise just how important this can be for a cruise customer.

We were discussing that in the event of a elder passenger traveling they would most prefer to have an indoor pool. When I asked why this was he gave me a several reasons such as the indoor climate control seems to be much warmer and with the cruise ships that have the retractable roof it stops any rain from getting in. Well my thoughts were that if you were booking a cruise to the Caribbean you would not necessarily need a retractable roof and if it was a cruise to the Med then booking to go in the summer months would be much better, unless it was a Canary cruise.

Although some customers may agree to an indoor pool  and think that the main lido pool does attract the younger market however this should not lose the appeal for the more mature customer. The lido pool is open to anyone to enjoy. Especially with the bigger cruise ships having different pools for kids based on different age groups.

Some customers prefer to be outside in the sunshine and to catch a tan which you would not get based on an inside pool. Although some of the indoor pools do have more of an exclusive appeal especially if they are associated with the spa. What do you?
