Antwerp City Square New Brabo Fountain

Well I have just come back from Antwerp in Belgium to see the Brabo Fountain and even though I have been to Antwerp over 5 times in the last 4 years I have never seen it look so stunning! Since being built as a statue it has now been built into a lovely fountain to show of it’s true meaning on Brabo, the giant Legend that was the toll keeper of all incoming ships into the port. However what makes the story even more interesting is that any persons denying the toll would have their hand cut off by him, or so legend says.

But I would certainly recommend if you are doing a cruise or Christmas cruise over to Antwerp in Belgium to take a look. I can honestly say on a hot summers day when you can feel that gentle splash of water hit your faced you will be amazed. And not only does the city center have the Brabo fountain, but also offers the Catherdral of our Lady, which from what I was told was built between 1350 – 1520, which at the time was one of the worlds tallest buildings and it is still a sky-scraper!

Antwerp (also know as Antwerpen to the locals) has to be one of my all time favorite cities to visit. The locals are so friendly and openly speak English which always helps the British. I am so happy to be travelling to Antwerp again at the end of October for a 4 night cruise on-board “Fred Olsen’s – Balmoral”. Anyone thinking of cruising to Antwerp, let me know if you have any questions that need answering.
