Who said Fred Olsen was Boring? Part 2

I hope you enjoyed reading the first half of my blog.

As promised this week we head even further north to the town of Alta.

SHIP ALTA

ALTA

It was great to have two days in Alta as we it gave us much more time to really explore.

On the first day we took Fred Olsen’s complimentary bus to explore the centre of town. It was lovely to wander the streets looking at Ice Sculptures and meeting some huskies but the highlight for us was stumbling upon the Northern Lights Cathedral. There’s a small entry fee but well worth the money.

As you can see the Cathedral has a very modern design and is  breathtaking inside. We were very lucky that the organist was rehearsing whilst we were there so it was like having our own concert and the acoustics were amazing.

It was mothers day a few days before our visit so my partner and I decided it would be nice to light candles in memory or our parents.

That evening we had paid for an excursion to actually go and find the Norther lights and as you can see we were not disappointed.

As soon as he arrived at camp the lights were already in full swing. After a couple of hours it was back to the ship where we were greeted with Hot chocolate and sausage rolls which I thought was a nice touch after being out in the cold.

On our second day in Alta got up very excited as we had booked a “Do it yourself dog sledding tour”

We had spoken to people on board who had been out the previous day and taken the guided tours and they all had a fantastic time however we did hear that one chap on our ship had broken his ankle the previous day so the thought of actually driving the Sledge started to feel a little daunting!

We needn’t have worried though these dogs are professionals. They knew exactly where they should be going and needed very little guidance from us.

It was an amazing experience and if you ever get the chance I would highly recommend this trip to everyone!

Join me next time as we enjoy an on board wedding renewal and head back south through Bergen and Stavanger.
