London 2012

I had decided not to talk about the Olympics today on my cruise blog as I guess most people will be but having satyed up all night watching the opening ceremony on Friday I just have to !

What a fabulous, wonderful spectacle it was – far, far better than I expected and so worth the late night.

The bells rang in my village at 8.12 on the morning and that was the start of the best day yet of 2012. the Red Arrows flying low over Tower Bridge, Bradley Wiggins in his yellow jersey opening the games, the NHS, England’s green and pleasant land and the industrial revolution, its was all wonderful.

I loved the fluffy white clouds, the creating of the Olympic rings of fire, the music and of course the Queen and James Bond – how different was this from all the opening ceremonies that we have all seen before. This was truly British and we`re proud of it !

David Beckham arriving with the torch was also in true James Bond style and the lighting of the beautiful torch and petals by the young athletes was inspiration – nobody would ever have guessed that one.

Now the real sport starts and I have found my self glued to things that I never thought would have any interest for me. The cycling road race, sailing, rowing and, of course the swimming. Lets hope the next 2 weeks live up to the first night.
