Fred Olsen Will Make You Feel Like A Star In 2015

Its that time of the year when the cruise lines launch their programmes for 2015, and now its Fred Olsen’s turn to announce lots of new and exciting itineraries. In line with some of the other cruise lines, their ships will be in the right placed at the right time to experience some famous events in 2015.

Film Stars and Fast Cars will see Boudicca arrive in Cannes on 23rd May to coincide with the famous Cannes Film Festival.

The cruise sails from Dover on 16th May 2015 and the ports of call are:-

Cadiz

Almeria

Cannes

Nice

Barcelona

Malaga

She will arrive back in Dover on 31st May 2015.

Fred Olsen are not going to guarantee that you will be seeing stars, or even a star, in Cannes but this is not the only reason to visit this lovely part of the French Riviera. The town itself is a really lovely resort with a gorgeous sandy beach. I am lucky to be able to visit Cannes regularly as I have a friend who has a small apartment at the back of the town. It sits at the top of a steep hill but part if the fun is wandering down in the morning to the market, mixing with the locals and buying the produce on sale there.

The marina is home to the yachts of the rich and famous, take a wander around it and see if you can spot a star. The quayside is littered with bars, cafes and restaurants, some expensive, some not so expensive but all bustling and full of life making this a great place to people watch.

Shopping is fab too, if you want designer clothes then you will need a designer bank account to go with it but, again, there is a huge variety to suit all budgets and tastes. Le Suquet is the little cobbled street that runs up from the corner of the Croisette. This is the old quarter of Cannes perched on a hill overlooking the  French Riviera. today. It is a popular area for people to enjoy the local cafes, restaurants, and shops, with a much more casual  atmosphere than the glamorous heart of Cannes.

There are some excellent restaurants here, but many people say they are overpriced and touristy. I wouldn`t agree with this but there are equally good, and much cheaper alternatives hidden in the less popular back streets of the town.

One of my favourites is ” Aux Bon Enfants ” , situated on Rue Meynadier, just behind the Croisette, where you can eat excellent food at much more reasonable prices than may in Cannes. No wonder the locals love it too! You can sit inside or out, the menu is good local dishes served by friendly waiters, and you can only pay in cash and much of the ingredients for the Provencal style food come from the nearby market.

You can only make a reservation  by stopping by the restaurant in person – the phone here is permanently out of order!!!

So if you fancy a little bit of glamour next year give Boudicca and Cannes a try – you will be impressed I promise.
