A lick of paint!

It was announced last week that P&O cruises are going to re-decorate the bow of their ships. This is in line with the new ship ‘Britannia’ which is due to launch in Spring next year.

I quite like the look of the new decorative bow as it stands out and is traditionally ‘British’ with the Union Jack flag being painted on.  P&O are the British cruise line so why should they not advertise the fact.

‘Britannia’ has a historical resonance for P&O Cruises, as two previous ships connected to the company have held this prestigious name. The first entered service in 1835 for the General Steam Navigation Company (which later became The Peninsular Steam Navigation Company) whilst the second entered service in 1887 to mark the Golden Jubilee of both Queen Victoria and P&O itself.

Britannia will carry 3,600 passengers so the largest in the P&O fleet.

As ships gets bigger & better as the years go on they need to stand out and offer something different so that customers will return time & time again.

The design which will be 94 metres long and will be the largest flag in the world. Britannia will be the first with this new design then the rest of the fleet will join her by the end of 2016.

All 7 ships that currently operate have had some refurbishment to the interior but will now have this fabulous new decorative bow so P&O will stand out on the seas.

One comment I read about this said: –

“Don’t see the point of them doing this, waste of money. Would much rather see them use it to pay their staff better. Happy staff = better customer service = happier and satisfied passenger. Simples”

Speaking to one of my clients yesterday who has just returned from the Arcadia said:-

“The refurbishment wasn’t completed, new carpets throughout so fluff all over the cabin on on our clothes”

As we didn’t get to go on Arcadia in December I cannot comment but had similar experience on Oceana last year after her refurbishment.

I have heard good & bad remarks about this but what do you think? I would love to hear your views.

I have been on most of the P&O ships so I’m really looking forward to what ‘Britannia’ can offer and can’t wait to see her.  Hope I’m lucky enough to go on board.

My favourite P&O ship is the Ventura which is sailing from Europe this year doing a series of fly-cruise holidays, it has been very popular so far and I’m even tempted to book one myself.
