I was a big kid again…….Oasis!

I have just been lucky enough to spend the day with some of my colleagues on Royal Caribbean – Oasis of the Seas & we had a great day.  The day was organised for agents to participate in activities whilst on board – it meant I could play games & be a kid again (not that I need much encouragement).

The ship sailed into Southampton on Wednesday 15th October from Rotterdam where she had undergone a refurbishment, she arrived at 10am to a crowd of spectators waiting for the biggest ship in the world to approach the UK. Allure is actually 5 cm longer so she is the biggest.  I wasn’t lucky enough to watch her sail in so the pictures I have borrowed from my colleague – thanks Edward!!

Ship facts:-

Oasis of the seas was launched in December 2009.

Tonnage – 225,282
Length – 1187ft
Width – 215ft
Speed – 22 knots
16 passenger decks
24 Elevators
5400 passengers at double occupancy
2394 crew from 71 countries
37 different stateroom categories
2706 cabins of which 1956 are balcony
24 dining options

She is an amazing ship, I was in awe when I saw my first glimpse of her as we arrived into Southampton and couldn’t wait to get on board and have a look around. We met up with the rest of our group and we were split into 2 teams as we would be completing challenges and games against each other to win points, once the teams were arranged we proceeded onto the ship to start our challenge.

Each team had approx 10/12 people and a host from Royal Caribbean, we had to visit different areas on the ship and take part in games to earn points – it really was a fun day.

We started off at ‘Adventure Ocean’ which is the kids club area and made a volcano which erupted, I just know the kids would love this kind of thing, so much fun…

Kids love to make a mess and here they can and also learn about experiments, so not only playing but learning.

Next stop was to play a game called ‘Ga Ga Ball’ – this games has a soft ball about the size of a football but must stay on the floor and you hit it with your hands, the floor is in a circle and the ball is hit between the two teams to get players knocked out, if you hit your opponents lower leg they are out – I really enjoyed this game but it was so tiring, I was exhausted after 10 minutes -it is harder than it looks – must start the gym I think!

Next stop we played mini golf & had to get a hole in one to score – I’m rubbish at golf so didn’t achieve this one.

During the day we also had to think up group photograph selfies as the best ones scored the most points, I had an idea to spell the word ‘WOW’ with people so this is what we did.  This was up on deck 16 where the Flowrider is, it was raining so we all had waterproof jackets so put these on for the photo – it was great fun organising everyone into their positions whilst I took the photo… In the right weather I would love to have a go at the Flowrider, it looks amazing.

Another selfie was by the Aqua Theatre so we did singing in the rain as it was pouring down….

Oasis has 7 neighbourhoods on board with a different theme for each one, we went to Central Park as had to search for Gnomes as part of our mission, we found them eventually as so small we had to search through all the greenery but we found them, they were call ‘Garry’ & ‘Ranznor’.

Central Park has many restaurants with a variety to suit everyone but some are speciality so will carry a cover charge so worth checking if you wish to eat here.

Boardwalk is another area at the aft of the ship where there is a carousel – really wanted to go on this but it wasn’t running (being a big kid again). The Aquatheatre is also at the end of the boardwalk and seats 700 guests at anyone time so make sure you book to ensure you see the show.

After a fantastic day looking round the ship and enjoying the activities, it was time for a well deserved drink in the champagne bar.  Our group all stayed together before it was time to head for Jazz on 4 for the results of our mission.

We were hoping we had won the group challenge as we really worked well together to complete out mission but we lost out by 1 point to the winning team, needless to say though Cruise.co.uk came 2nd & 3rd so we were happy with that.

We then had dinner on board with the group before having to disembark.

This was the best ship visit I have ever done as was so much fun, we didn’t get to see any cabins as the ship was full but had a great day all the same. Well done Royal Caribbean & Thank You!
