Best Food at Sea!

Let me tell you all about the food on the Regent Seven Seas Voyager which I was lucky enough to spend 5 nights on board earlier this month.  Cruise ships are renowned for their great food on board and I love going to dinner whilst on a cruise but this ship was the best food I’d ever had on a cruise.

The first night we were lucky enough to eat in Prime 7 which is the steak house on board Voyager.

Being a speciality restaurant you would think there would be a charge to eat here but there isn’t, it is included in your cruise fare – the only advise I would give is to pre-book as it does get busy. This applies to all speciality restaurants on board, no charge but must make reservations to dine in them.

PRIME  7

This is the American Steakhouse on board Regent Seven Seas ships, they serve  the traditional starters, including Jumbo Lump Crab Cakes, Oysters Rockefeller, and French Onion Soup Gratinée. Of course, beef is the undisputed star, as it is all USD A Prime and Dry-Aged at least 28 days to ensure the ultimate tenderness, juiciness and flavor. “Côte de Boeuf” Bone-in Rib Steak, Porterhouse Steak and succulent Filet Mignon only touch upon the selections. Mouthwatering alternatives include Colorado Double-Cut Lamb Chops and Oven-Roasted Organic Free-Range Chicken.

I had the surf & turf which was absolutely beautiful, I am quite fussy with steak as like it well done but it was cooked perfectly, you can choose  6 ounce filet mignon with one of your seafood favourites – 6 ounce lobster tail or Alaskan king crab legs.

We had about 4/5 courses and was absolutely stuffed but had an amazing meal, the setting is just perfect with high backed leather chairs and large round tables to sit large parties or tables for 2 or 4. The staff were amazing and explained each course and were very attentive.
Prime 7 is only open for dinner.

Prime 7 is located on deck 5 mid ship.

Reservations can be made 75 days prior to sailing sate to ensure you get the date you require.

SIGNATURES

The next evening we ate at Signatures, serving French cuisine is an art form and is the raison d’être of our French restaurant. Capturing the diversity of French fare, our seasoned chefs offer an exquisite dining experience with tantalizing tastes and enticing presentation. Consequently, each and every dish served in Signatures is absolutely sublime and purely French.

I enjoyed the meal in here, I had the rack of lamb which was beautiful & perfectly cooked to your liking.  Some of the guys tried snails so I had a taste but I wasn’t keen.
The waiters serve the best French wine to go with the meals so you can choose which wine you wish to drink and as it is all inclusive there is no charge for these wines.

Signatures is another speciality restaurant & only open for dinner, reservations are required here also, the setting is very exquisite and the crockery is by Versace, made specially for Regent. I was loving the plates and the setting of the tables.

Signatures is located on deck 5 aft of the ship.

COMPASS ROSE

The Compass Rose is the main dining room on board so no reservation required for this restaurant, I must admit I loved the food in here also, not as exquisite as the speciality restaurants but still a very enjoyable meal. This is the largest restaurant again with large round tables for larger groups or smaller tables for 2 or 4.

Compass Rose is located on deck 4 mid ship.

I had the pork in here, it was Ok but a little bit fatty, think I had been spoilt in the speciality restaurants but still enjoyed the rest of the meal.

We finished off with a brandy coffee as I don’t really eats sweets so my colleagues made me order one they weren’t having and ate it themselves.  I usually have cheese & biscuits instead of a pudding but you can have both as no limit.

Breakfast, lunch & dinner is served in The Compass Rose so you can have a nice meal at all times if you don’t fancy the buffet style in Le Verandah.

POOL GRILL

Here you can get a quick snack in between sunbathing (weather permitting) they serve speciality sandwiches, hot dogs, burgers, chips  & salad. Quite a limited menu and serve till approx 4pm but enough to make sure you eat something during the day before dinner. What I loved was when you have filled up your plate a waiter will take the plate from you and carry to your table – now that is service & I was amazed at this as never seen this before on a ship but that’s what you get for 6* luxury All Inclusive.
I had egg mayonnaise on a croissant one day, it was lovely & think I’ll try to make that one day at home. The burgers were so tasty and after one you wanted another, same with the hot dogs – so tasty.

Pool Grill is located on deck 11 by the pool.

LE VERANDAH/SETTE MARI

Le Verandah is located on deck 11 aft of the ship. This is the buffet restaurant which serves breakfast & lunch then in the evening is Sette Mari which is again buffet style with different themes for the menu.  You can choose to dine inside or outside at Le Verandah and the setting is perfect overlooking the back of the ship if you sit outside. We had breakfast here and there is so much choice from healthy options to cooked breakfast, cereals, toast, fruit, yoghurt & much more.

On the last evening we dined here with out party and also with one of the guests we had become friendly with from Chicago – Greg, he was a lovely man travelling on his own and we all got on really well with him and he spent quite a bit of time with our group. I love to meet and chat to the customers when on board as you get a feeling of what they think of the ship. Greg had done a few regent cruises and he loved everything about them.

We tried Oysters this night as they had been caught fresh that day and were the speciality dish for the theme, so we had to try them. I had never had them so it was a first for me, Greg taught me what to do so down the hatch it went. I must admit I didn’t really enjoy it but apparently it becomes an acquired taste and you can learn to love them – maybe I’ll try them again someday.

COFFEE CONNECTION

If all this food was not enough there is also Coffee Connection which is a small coffee bar serving every coffee imaginable along with small cakes & cookies if you fancy something sweet, and all included in your cruise fare. I love a good Latte & they sure made a fantastic one in here & a cheeky cookie to go with it!

So all in all I really enjoyed the food on board Regent Seven Seas Voyager & I’m sure you will to so if you fancy a 6* All Inclusive luxury cruise call me on 0330 303 8208 or email me at [email protected].
