London & Thriller Live!!

I have just had a few days off and been on my annual trip to London to spend time with my friend Kjersti from Svalbard – why not read my blog all about Svalbard.

Kjersti works for VisitSvalbard.com so comes over to London each year to attend a Norway conference work shop so we make the most of it and spend some time together.

We had 2 nights in London so did some sightseeing and also went to see ‘Thriller Live’ again which was even better than last year. We had front row seats again and the cast loved us as we had everyone on their feet dancing along

We stayed at The Marble Arch by Montcalm which is a 5* Boutique Hotel in a great location, rooms were a bit small but you get that in London as last few times I have been I’ve had this problem so if you know any good hotels with spacious rooms – please let me know.

We didn’t have breakfast at the hotel as quite expensive & Kjersti said it wasn’t very good so for £18 each we thought we’ll go somewhere else.

We went for a lovely meal on the first night then decided to go for a drink but weren’t sure where to go so we asked someone at the restaurant where we should go and we were advised Carbon which was round the corner, he was a bit strange we thought so decided to head in that direction and see where to go. We stumbled upon a pub called ‘City of Quebec’ so we went in there.  After we had been in there about 15 minutes we noticed it was all men – it was a gay bar but we had the best night and met some lovely people so much so we went back again the following night.  We even became friends on Facebook with the bouncer!

The next morning we were meeting up with another friend Sarah for lunch so we headed to Green Park as this was where we were meeting.  Sarah hadn’t booked to come and see the show so we were spending the afternoon together then she would head home.

We walked past ‘The Ritz’ – one day I will go in there for afternoon tea!!

Instead we headed to ‘The Clarence’ just across the street – it was a lovely place and the staff were fantastic.  We had a lovely lunch and of course a few drinks!  Sarah then decided she wanted to come with us that evening to the show so I checked to see if a seat by us was available – I believe in fate as the seat next to us was free so we booked it.

We headed back to the hotel to freshen up so we could eat (again) before the show.

We travelled around London using the tube as it is the easiest & cheapest way – we love it as don’t use it very often so we headed towards the Lyric Theatre to see where we could eat before the show.  We went the The Lyric pub just across the street, we went here last year after the show for a drink so we know it was a nice place – the food was lovely.

Then it was time for the show………

It was fantastic – I didn’t buy a programme this year as had one from last year but I bought a T-shirt. We went to stage door to see if could get autographs of the cast but had nothing to sign so I asked them to sign the T-shirt!  Just means I can’t wear it but it’s a reminder of a great few days.

On Friday we got the train back to Coventry as Kjersti was staying at my house for a couple of nights. We went out to my local on Friday night but actually stayed in Saturday as we were pretty tired after a crazy few days but we had fun as we always do.

Next year we are hoping to go on a cruise instead of London so may do a week or even a mini cruise as Kjersti has never been on one so I need to show her what she is missing. We will need to wait till last minute to book though as depends when Kjersti can get time off to come over to UK.

I’m sure we will spend about the same on a mini cruise as London is expensive for the accommodation, food, theatre tickets – and you can get all this on a ship so I’m really looking forward to Kjersti experiencing her first cruise.

Hopefully she will get the ‘bug’ and do future cruises – fingers crossed.
