Luggage Handlers are just pants

Have you ever got to your cruise started to unpack your case and have that dreaded feeling that you have left something valuable at home, even though you could have sworn you packed it.  Well that’s what has been happening over the past few months to travellers who have been victim to the baggage handlers working at JFK airport. Seven baggage handlers have been arrested after a hidden camera investigation has uncovered a five month stealing spree that has resulted in thousands of pounds worth of items being stolen out of checked baggage.  The handlers were caught after customers started complaining and reporting their missing items.  Israeli Airline who were employing the handlers decided to take matters into their own hands and installed a camera in the belly of their 747 jets.  Once the footage was looked at, it showed the seven employees – often wearing gloves – rifling through passengers suitcases and unbelievably stuffing the valuable down their pants!!!!!! How big were there pants?

I’m sorry but I don’t understand how you could stroll out of work with people’s cameras, jewellery, trinkets and whatever else stuffed in your pants without anyone getting suspicious.  What a shame for the poor victims as well , as once this news has got out I would find it very hard to get excited about my goods coming back to me knowing where they have been!

Once the thieves had been identified there homes were searched which unveiled a bounty of Cologne, Valentino Sunglasses, 13 watches, a Sony PlayStation (His pants must have been enormous) , two I phones an ipad three gold rings and a pair of earrings. They are being charged with grand larceny, criminal possession of stolen property, fourth-degree criminal mischief, petit larceny and attempted petit larceny.
I think this is terrible that these people have had this happen to them as when you say goodbye to your suitcase as it disappears down the little aisle you have faith that it will be in safe hands and reach you at your destination intact.  These criminals have abused their positions of trust and I think it is only right that they are treated appropriately with a long prison sentence.
I think as travellers we can all learn a lesson from this and be extra precautions while travelling. I have put a few tips below to help you reduce your chance of being targeted:
*Don’t put electronics, cameras, jewelry, valuables in your checked baggage as airlines do not insure these types of items.
*When packing and you have to put something of valuable in your luggage take a snap of the item in case you are unlucky and this can support your claim to your insurance provider.

*Use a secure suitcase with a luggage lock or padlock.
