Elizabeth left to rot !!

For all you Cunard die-hard fans you may not wish to carry on reading this as I have some very upsetting news. It appears that after hopes and dreams of the Old QE 2 having a glorious retirement in the glamourous ports of Dubai, being upgraded and refurbished to the highest quality and being transformed into a luxury hotel for the rich it appears she has been given false promise.

She left the UK in 2008 and headed off to the United Arab Emirates to the Port Rashid. The iconic liner served Cunard for 40 years and was a firm favourite carrying almost 2.5 million passengers and completing more than 800 Atlantic crossings.

In 2008 she was sold for £50 million to a developer. The plans for her turning into a luxury hotel seemed to have stalled after several years of proposals and plans and there has even been talk of her returning to the UK to moor permanently on the River Thames in London to become a landmark and a 500 room floating hotel.

With her future in more doubt then ever it really is a sorry story for a ship that is so iconic and holds a lot of fond memories for families through the generations.

There have been people online who have posted pictures of the ship looking in a sorry state with the Dubai heat, dust and humidity turning her into a rusty mess – with rumours even circulating that she could be sold for scrap!!

I personally don’t understand why such a lovely ship is being so badly neglected when it could be put to good use and it could really bring in big business and money for someone if they were willing to put the time and effort into it.

It’s a very sad story that hopefully will have a happy ending sooner rather than later before she ends up on the scrapheap !!!!!!!
