Cunard strike up the band

Everyone likes a big party to celebrate their birthday and the Queen Elizabeth is no different. Cunard have announced a special sailing to mark Queen Elizabeth’s fifth birthday where guests will be invited take to the dance floor for a Big Band Ball, to celebrate this special birthday from 2-7 October 2015.

On October 4, 2010 Cunard officially took ownership of the youngest ship in the fleet,  and for her fifth birthday they have organised a party that aims to get everyone In the Mood for a good old dance and get together.

During Queen Elizabeth’s 5 night cruise to Amsterdam and Bruges (from Zeebrugge) guests will be invited to relive the heyday of Swing and Jazz at the ship’s own Big Band Ball. I couldn’t think of any better setting then a big band party in the Queens ballroom.  People will be encouraged to get up and dance to the magnificent music and hopefully feel like they were recreating the same ambience as back in the day.

On the 03rd October there will be a very special Black tie gala dinner event with a special menu created to mark the occasion. After dinner guests will then be welcomed into the Queens ballroom by the ships 14 piece band where the sounds of the rat pack and Frank Sinatra will fill the air.  After a night full of dance there will a big countdown at midnight to bring in the Elizabeth’s official birthday.

During the five night cruise, guests can also enjoy sounds from other eras, including one of the UK’s best tribute 60s acts, The Overtures.  Historian Eric Flounders will bring the history of Cunard to life as part of the Insight Speakers programme, while acclaimed comedian Mike Miller will add touches of humour.

This is what I love about Cunard it offers guests a real touch of class and elegance that cannot be found on any other cruise lines. It is in a class of its own and for guests who love nostalgia and tradition then Cunard offers this in abundance. When I sailed on The Queen Mary in December this was the one thing that really stood out to me about their ships that around every corner you are reminded of the lines history and background and where it all began. They have really kept the old school feel but are right up to date when it comes to service and food.

I love Cunard and will wish the Queen Elizabeth a very Happy Fifth Birthday…..Bless her.
