An entire deck on the Eclipse filled with grass! Come take a look at the Lawn Club!

As you know I have recently returned for a two night mini cruise on board Celebrity Eclipse, my first time cruising on Eclipse and in fact with Celebrity! I love the excitement of driving towards the port and seeing your ship waiting for you to step on board! I don’t think it will matter how many ships I am lucky enough to cruise on I’m sure that feeling of excitement will always be there.

So what were my first impressions of Eclipse….well we were met with a glass of champagne which is always a good start. Lots of smiling staff and a gleaming ship, I couldn’t wait to explore. The Eclipse has won many awards and is always such a favourite with guests, I can now see why, what is there not to love!

There is always so much to see on a new ship and always aspects of the ship that stand out, that make that particular ship one you remember. The Eclipse is home to the Lawn Club, one of my favourite areas on board. Unique to Celebrity and the Solstice class ships this is a huge grassy area up on deck 15..and yes it’s real grass! It’s one of the talking points for the Eclipse, I mean there isn’t another cruise line offering your very own Lawn on a ship!

I was intrigued as to how the grass stays so green and how isn’t ruined being at sea, it’s a tough environment out there with all weathers and of course the salt. I read that before Celebrity found the right grass suited to life on a ship they tested 12 different types! You would expect dry and possibly brown areas on the lawn, but the grass is perfectly green and perfectly cut over the entire 12,000 sq ft area! You could almost be walking around a park at home!

You can sit and have a coffee and a snack at the cafe on the lawn, or you can choose to have a picnic up there. Picture yourself lay on a picnic blanket enjoying a nice glass of wine or maybe a cocktail. It’s a perfect place for totally relaxing or if you wish you can get active with one of the lawn games. You can play croquet or a game of mini golf. For me it would be a perfect place to sun bathe…lay on fresh grass out at sea, strangely weird but brilliant !

Of course if the games and the sunbathing become too much you can always sit at the bar and enjoy a nice cold beer in the sun, I love the alfresco bars on board and this was one of my favourite ones. On other Celebrity ships, the Reflection and the Silhouette they have introduced the Lawn Club Grill, an outdoor restaurant where you can enjoy yet another great restaurant.

As I’m looking at any new ship I’m usually thinking about my little girl…would she like the ship, what would she do on board? The Lawn Club would most certainly be a hit for her, what child doesn’t like playing on grass out in the fresh air, so a great family area also.
