Chinese wedding celebrations

Chinese wedding celebrations

I was delighted to be invited to a Chinese wedding reception last weekend.

My next-door neighbour, Vida is from Hong Kong. Her son Justin was the groom and he married Anne.

The wedding took place in May at a local church in Saddleworth and then family reception at the golf club.

Chinese tradition also gathers family and friends later and this was a celebration at a restaurant in Manchester. Due to a family bereavement, the wedding reception was delayed until last week.

The restaurant was amazing. Everyone had to sign their name on a lovely silk cloth – I am guessing for a keep safe.

The bride and groom greeted everyone, and the groomsmen showed everyone to their table.

We sat at the front next to the wedding cake with a friend of Justin, his mum, Justin’s uncle and auntie and some other friends.

The tables looked fantastic! Everyone had a gift box with a set of chopsticks!

I was a little scared by the menu. It was very traditional, a lot of fish and sea food.

Look at the menu…

My husband really enjoyed the suckling pig

I loved the crab

And lobster

The shark fin soup was an experience! Not sure I would like to repeat ha!

The Cantonese petit were little pastries. Very delicious!

We enjoyed the whole experience!

The cake was served up to everyone and we even had a doggy bag to take home.

The food did not go to waste. It was all bagged and taken home! I just took cake!

After the banquet one of the bridesmaids – Justin’s sister – entertained everyone with some fun games. I thought I would be asked to participate but fortunately escaped the embarrassment!

And then came the karaoke! I forget how much karaoke is enjoyed by the Chinese! The passion and enthusiasm were fantastic! Some were better than others but what good fun we had!

Ending with Summer loving performed by the whole wedding party! Classic!

Have you ever attended a traditional wedding?

I would love to hear all about it!
