Why should I book a package?

Over the past couple of months, we have seen issues with Ryan air cancelling flights due to lack of pilots (or them taking their holidays at the same time!) and the sad news about Monarch airlines.

Both these incidents left thousands of holidays makes stranded, out of pocket and feeling hard done by.

Most who booked a package holiday will have been rescued from overseas destinations and other flights offered for forthcoming trips.

I have a couple due to travel to Rome with Celebrity cruises. The flights from Birmingham to Rome had been cancelled and it was Celebrities job to find an alternative flight. This couple opted for Heathrow flights with a coach from Birmingham.

Our teams worked through the night to ensure that packages we had booked for that week were all re booked within hours.

We have an ATOL – Air Travel Organisers’ Licence which protects holiday makes from companies ceasing business and protects money and ensures you are not stranded.

Any packages we book are covered by the licence and you will be sent a certificate to prove you are covered.

If you book flights separate to a holiday or cruise then you will not be covered by the ATOL licence and the trip is at your own risk.

Many still take this option especially if you want to save some money.

Make sure you look out for hidden extras. Luggage allowance can push your air fare up and then transfers to your hotel or cruise will be at your own cost.

Both these will be included in your package unless you decide to opt out.

I booked flights to Palma for March next year with some friends for a 40^th / 50^th birthday celebration. We booked with Monarch and are still waiting for the money to be refunded. Fortunately, we booked with a credit card and the money is safe
