What does a River Cruise have to offer ?

The biggest difference between Ocean Cruises and River Cruises is that river cruises take you to countries where as ocean cruises takes you through countries. I think in some ways it makes a river cruises a more immersive experience with so many itineraries to match all tastes and passions with no compromise on choice.

Take in the scenic splendour on the serene Moselle meandering through picture book landscapes of vineyard-clad hills with half timbered medieval towns and villages.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                    There is also amazing scenery along the 1,777 mile sweep of the Danube from the beautiful Black Forest  to the Black Sea. Between Melk and Krems in the Wachu valley you get to gaze at church spires and castle turrets with cultivated terraces spilling down the mountain slopes. Not forgetting the amazing Cities which include three of Europe’s grand capitals Vienna, Bratislava and Budapest.

Other Cities to be admired on a river cruise would be along the less travelled Elbe with Dresden, Prague and Berlin.  Paris is a launch port for the Seine while the Rhone and the Duro offer a more food and wine indulgence.

If it is Palaces and Castles that interest you then you will be spoilt for choice on the Volga where a wealth of historical palaces lie in store on Russian waterways. St. Petersburg being the highlight with the Hermitage Museum in the former Winter Palace  and a trip to the Peterhof Palace is a must.

Today I have just talked about Europe but for the more adventurous there are even more options further a field which I  will talk about next time.
