Don’t put your glad rags on!

BIG news this week from Celebrity Cruise Line HQ, that as of 4th Dec 2015 all formal nights are to be abolished in favour of a more relaxed styling!!

What?  Yay! Boo! I hear you scream from all over.

Yes it is true the formal night dress code is being relaxed across the fleet and guests will no longer have to wear stuffy jackets or ties, these nights will now be changed to “Evening Chic”, allowing passengers to wear what makes them feels comfortable and dressy.

Now please do not think that this new style will allow you to arrive dressed in shorts, t-shirts or even worst velour, there are still guidelines, and Celebrity have based this bold move on evolving passenger mix in recent years.

  • Women should feel comfortable wearing a cocktail dress, skirt, trousers, or designer/smart jeans with an elegant top.
  • Men should feel comfortable wearing trousers or smart jeans with a dress shirt or button-down shirt or sweater, with blazers optional.

The vice president of hotel operations for Celebrity explained: “As we’re watching our guests, we see this is how they’re vacationing. They are becoming more casual but at the same time, still sophisticated. They still want great food and great service, but they want to experience it in a more relaxed, casual way.”

So what you think? Have they gone raving mad? Or do you think this move is long over due and that all cruise lines should follow in celebrity rather relaxed footsteps?

My opinion is split. I love formal nights, I love spending ages picking the right dress, the glitz and glamour, having my hair done and feeling dressed up as do I also enjoy seeing everyone else dressed up the same.

However I can also see if from another point of view after a conversation with my husband who spends every working day dress in a stuff suit and tie, that when he goes on holiday he doesn’t want to feel like he is in the office still, I am sure many of you probably feel the same

So good arguments both ways really. I have also seen lots of comments online …….

“Another move in the dumbing down by cruise companies. They are becoming more like a holiday camp at sea. Not what I want from a cruise.”

Don’t give in to sloppy dress codes as it will be your downfall.

“May as well go on an all inclusive as dressing up is part of cruising, think its a huge mistake on their part. “

What do you think? Do you agree with some of these comment? I would love to hear your thoughts on this one
