Canada, Alaska and the Rockies

I get asked a lot about Canada and where you can and can’t cruise to and from. What you can do there? Where do you start and well just about everything. It seems when people talk about the U.S.A it’s like they know exactly what you can do and with thousands of cruise opportunities it’s so easy to put a package together and tailor make a holiday. With Canada it’s a little different. Sure you can cruise out the east coast like New York and visit Nova Scotia, Halifax, Prince Edward Island and a trip over to Niagara falls but for the east coast that’s about it. You have the local cities like Toronto, Montreal, Quebec etc but I think if you really are considering a cruise and stay with Canada then look West.

Now I’ve not done an Alaskan cruise and it certainly is on my Bucket list. To cruise Alaska is so easy to do with a stay and a self drive in The Rockies or even the famous Rocky Mountaineer.

The west of Canada is just beautiful and the scenery is just unbelievable. I was lucky enough to visit a few places as well as do the Rocky Mountaineer.

Now if you’re going to consider the beautiful west and you would like to try a cruise and stay let me give you some ideas of where you can stay.

Most Alaska cruises you will find go in and out of Vancouver. Spending a few nights here is a must. It’s a great city and you won’t be disappointed.

If you’re not going to do the Rocky Mountaineer then head towards Banff. Again a fantastic town. I was here in May time and I could just see how fabulous it would look in the winter months with snow. Not that I’ve ever been on a snow skiing holiday but seeing the place it was easy to imagine just that.

If you do take the train then Kamloops is another small little town that feels like it’s tucked away in the middle of nowhere. I plan to go back to Canada and I’m going to do the self drive and an Alaskan cruise. I will probably start in Calgary and head towards Lake Louise, Jasper and Banff before boarding the Rocky Mountaineer and finishing in Vancouver and then do Alaska. So if you want an idea of how to put together a great self drive with the Rocky Mountaineer before finishing with an Alaskan cruise I believe this is the way to do it.

Calgary a great city and after a long flight is just perfect to start the holiday. I recommend you go to the top of the Calgary Tower.

Nice views and a little scary on a glass floor.

If you ever wanted to do a self drive, perhaps the Rocky Mountaineer  or an  Alaskan cruise or all together in one amazing holiday then give me a call and I will gladly help you put such an itinerary together for that once in a life time trip.
