Alaska (Part Two)

Whilst on board Royal Caribbean’s Explorer of the Seas we visited Juneau as our first port of call. A nice town and worth visiting a certain bar called the Red Dog Saloon. A nice old Cowboy Western Style Bar. Good entertainment inside and one of those that you just have to see to believe.

I enjoyed both Juneau and Skagway. They both kind of reminded me of Banff in Canada. Being as this cruise was at the end of season for Alaska it was pretty quite and all the shops did look like they were closing down for the winter until next season.

Earlier in the day we did an excursion with a Helicopter and Ice Glazier landing. Now, this was really good and well worth doing. Not the cheapest but worth it all the same. i actually wanted the hour trekking in the full gear but it had sold out so I had to settle for a landing and 20/30 mins on a Glazier.

The Helicopter was a good experience, to actually fly over the Ice and I did a Facebook live for as long as I had signal.

Of course, my wife was in a big warm coat and typical of me in shorts in all weather. Don’t be fooled by the shorts it was very cold but I tend to not feel the cold on my legs so I was fine. She thought I was off my rocker obviously.

Yes, I even had to try some of the fresh water. It was actually really cold and very fresh. This was better than evian any day of the week.

A most enjoyable day, cold on the ice but rather warm for time of the year in Juneau. It was then back to the ship.

Next port of call would be Skagway. So, do check back in a couple of weeks to hear all about the Klondike Gold Rush & White Pass Train excursions that we did.
