Stupid Is As Stupid Does – Cruise ship theft gets couple kicked off ship 12,000 KM from home.

I recently read that a Brazilian couple had been kicked off the Celebrity Solstice several days ago after the woman allegedly stole a handbag from the vessel’s store worth hundreds of dollars. The stupidity of some people never ceases to amaze me!

The incident happened when the ship was in the Fiordland region of New Zealand and security staff reported the incident once docked in Port Chalmers, Dunedin. A branded handbag was taken from one of the onboard shops and later found in the couple’s cabin. The sequence of events was apparently backed up by security footage.

Investigating Senior Constable Steve Tvrdeic says the ship’s security didn’t wish to pursue prosecutions but the couple had been told to disembark as “They showed a lot of remorse; as you can appreciate it has ruined their holiday.”

So basically they opted to nick a handbag worth ‘a few hundred dollars’ on a cruise they subsequently got kicked off, which I imagine cost them a few thousand dollars, not only that but being from Brazil they opted to partake in said ‘nicking’ in a country almost 12,000 KM from their own – I ask you.

Besides, being on a cruise ship where did they think they would go with their ‘booty’? Hide out in the buffet restaurant between the cold cuts and bread basket hoping no one would notice them?!

Master criminals they ain’t!

Apparently the shipping company will ‘assist in organising flights back to Brazil’ for the couple though it isn’t clear if this involves booking the flights or paying for them also, I’d like to think ‘criminally challenged’ couple have to cover the costs themselves.

All said and done it makes for one very expensive handbag!

My thoughts are with the man of the couple….what did he get out of this apart from a holiday of a lifetime cut short, a potentially massive bill for flights home and I assume the handbag wasn’t even for him in the first place! – I feel for you brother.

Any comments greatly appreciated.

Bye for now.
