100 cruises on the same ship (and almost the same itinerary) – SERIOUSLY?

I read an article recently which told the story of one couple who’ve taken 100 cruises on the same ship, that’s 100 cruises on the same ship!

Last week, Bernard and Janice Caffary from Lakeland, Florida, set sail on their 100th voyage on board the same cruise ship, Carnival Sensation, in just over a decade. Carnival told USA Today that no other customers have taken so many trips on the same ship in the company’s 43-year history.

I’m sure Carnival haven’t come across any other customers quite so bonkers. Now I appreciate some holidays are worth repeating but 10 times a year for ten years…come on!

It’s not like the Carnival Sensation really varies her itineraries, she visits the same destinations all year round in mainly the Bahamas and the Caribbean, in fact on a recent 14-night sailing, the pair only left the ship once, for a short walk along the beach in Costa Maya, Mexico.

So this begs the obvious question…..why don’t you do something else for change?!

Apparently the couple love the on board experience. “We really do like the crew – it’s a family atmosphere, a lot of the staff members call us mum and dad, said Mrs Caffary, 68. The couple even wear badges on their cruises that read: “I give crew hugs.”

Oh dear.

The couple have spent a total of 585 nights at sea since they retired in 2000, and Mrs Caffary told USA Today they have spent “up to $117,000 (£79,000).”

Well to me this is just crackers, travel should be about new destinations and new experiences. Of course it can be nice to revisit somewhere that holds good memories of good times gone by but maybe once or twice right? – Not 100!

What do you think of the Caffary’s from Florida, how many times would you/have you sailed on the same ship? Would you go on the same holiday 100 times?!

I’d love to hear your thoughts.

Bye for now.
