Last weekend saw our annual visit to the Belbroughton Scarecrow Festival, with three children packed in the car, none of them belonging to us may I add we headed off in search of the scariest scarecrows we could find. The festival drew in over 22 thousand visitors last year and judging by the amount of cars and glorious sunshine I’m sure they beat their record this year. The event is held to raise money for the village including the school and the cricket club and the whole village puts in so much effort ensuring that everybody has a fantastic day out.
With a family ticket costing £20 for two adults and unlimited children it’s a great value day out. The best thing was that your ticket also included all the rides for the children too so we didn’t have to keep putting our hands in our pockets for bouncy castles and tea cup rides, result. With the kids happy, and a cider tent in sight we were all very happy.
Grabbing a program on the gate we followed a set route around the village where the local residents display their finely tuned scarecrows on their front lawns or yard, this year’s theme was Hero’s and Villains, here’s a taste of some of the best entries….
Also to keep you entertained there were three fields full of crafts, children’s rides, farmers markets, stunt riding demonstrations, ladies with their spinning wheels, animal tents including Meercats and owls, pony rides, the list goes on and on. You can even have a bash at learning to ring the church bells, every business and amenity in the village gets involved it’s great.
Safe to say a great day was had by all.
