Don’t give up on your PPI claim……..

True story

I’d worked 10 days in a row during a busy January and was looking forward to my first lie in in ages. At 8:02am on Wednesday 21st January snuggled up in my duvet my phone rang. I was woken up by the dreaded 0800 number on my mobile at 8AM…. Not a happy bunny as you can imagine. I answered waiting in anticipation for the ‘I’m calling about the accident you’ve had in the last 2 years’ or the ‘You are entitled to a free boiler replacement’ but no third time lucky it was the ‘I’m calling about your PPI claim’. Here we go for the 100th time…….

Just as I was about to hang up, the lady advised she was calling me from Halifax regarding the PPI claim that I had submitted directly to them over 2 years ago. The claim where I was told ‘we have looked into but unfortunately you are not entitled to anything’

In between working overseas in 2005 I had taken out a credit card with Halifax for emergencies, I didn’t do on-line banking and only noticed a £20 charge on my statements 1 ½ years later in 2007 when I returned home for a few weeks holiday. I rang Halifax questioning the charge and was advised it was my card protection, I said I had never asked for any card protection and wanted it removed from my account. The gentleman kindly removed it and no more was said about the matter.

Years later when everybody became more aware about PPI and many people I’d spoken to had claimed and been awarded refunds I thought surely I have a case. If I noticed it on my account and contacted them to remove it, having no idea what this charge was for, how could I not have a case?

However I was told no. I left it at that, I thought I’ve obviously not ticked the right boxes.

Back to the call. The lady advised they were reviewing previous rejected claims that they feel were not dealt with fairly and would like to investigate my claim further. I answered several questions and she told me I would hear the outcome within 3 weeks. They had my old address on file so I made sure they had updated it for all new correspondence.

Yesterday, one day before the 3 week deadline I rang Halifax for an update, they advised a letter had been sent out to me the day before, as expected I checked where it had been sent and they had sent it to my old address.

I asked if they could forward a copy to my current address. The lady apologised and said no problem, and we will also forward the payment to that address too.

At this point yes my ears did prick up, payment? She continued to advise they are refunding me a very nice four figure amount which will go nicely towards clearing the rest of my credit cards.

HAPPY DAYS!!!!!! Thank you Halifax xxxxxxx

So for anybody out there, who has been rejected for a PPI claim, if at first you don’t succeed, try try again……………
