Cruise passenger didn’t get ‘seal’ of approval

This has to be one of the strangest cruise incidents I have heard in a while; a British cruise passenger has been attacked by a seal.  The attack happened during a visit to Salisbury Plain on the remote island of South Georgia, which is known for its king penguins and seals. The seals, as big as a man and weighing 300kg, are a popular visitor attraction, but can be ferocious if they feel threatened during the breeding season.

I should think the passenger in question had a real shock during the attack, he is said to have suffered an injury to his arm which has resulted with him being airlifted off the ship. Easier said than done.  Due to the location of the ship, the Royal Navy and RAF had to be called in to help airlift the passenger from the ship to get him to a land based hospital for medical treatment.

The rescue had to be meticulously planned and covered more than a 2000 mile round trip. The Royal Naval ship had to move into perfect position to enable the RAF helicopter to land and refuel so it could reach the cruise ship in order to rescue the passenger.

Once the cruise passenger was winced off the ship, it then made its way back to the Fauklands Islands in order for the man to get urgent medical treatment.

I’m off to the Arctic tomorrow to check out ‘Richard with’ part of the Hurtigruten fleet.  I’m really looking forward to it as I have never been to Norway or further north. I’ve packed several layers of clothing and a variety of hats so I’m all set. I’m looking forward to meeting the husky dogs for a sledge ride. However having read about this passenger being attacked by a seal I’m not going to get that close, even being the dog lover I am.
