Where can I sample the best hot chocolate in Bruges?

If you are thinking of taking a mini cruise to incorporate Bruges then I would highly recommend it. I went for the Christmas markets mid-December. It was a rather cold Monday morning when we arrived. The year before. I visited on a weekend and it was much more bustling. Best ways to get there is either by bus if the cruise line provide this option, train – close to the centre and to the port of Zeebrugge or take a taxi if your prefer it a little easier! The journey is approx. 25 minutes but you must allow time to get from the port security back to the ship (a small bus is provided).

Once in Bruges there is plenty to see. The Christmas markets were great and so much choice from souvenirs to delicious snacks and treats.

Chocolate is a must! I bought some from a shop. It was a selection of truffle style chocolate, approx. 10 pieces for 10 Euros. Expensive but it tasted good! I managed to save them until Christmas day so everyone had a sample!

If you feel adventurous there is ice skating located at the 2^nd square or you can watch on from one of the cafes!

Fancy a lovely hot chocolate? We visited ‘The Old Chocolate House’ who claimed (on a banner outside) to have the best tasting hot chocolate in Bruges! Quite a claim!

It was fantastic! Certainly lived up to its claim! Presented with a large mug of hot milk and a pot of chocolate pieces, you then added however much you wanted! My friend Henry added all of the chocolate! Jane added just ½ needless to say I did prefer Henry’s option!

You must get there early because as you can imagine it is very busy! It is also very small. The spiral stairs up to the café were also quite a challenge even for my small size 5 feet! 1 slip and you would be doomed!

I also sampled a waffle! Delicious! Sorry I ate ½ of it before I remembered to take the photo!
